TOURIST INFORMATION
- Climate: The climate in the Canary Islands is moderate throughout the year, with small variations between the summer and the winter. The average temperature is 24 ºC.
- Currency: The currency is the EURO. Available coins are: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents, 1 euro and 2 euros. Available bills are: 5,10, 20, 50,100, 200 and 500 euros.
In order to exchange in the Canary Islands, banks are highly recommendable. Hotels and exchange agencies are usually not economical. Credit cards are widely accepted in most of hotels, restaurants and stores.
- Electricity: The voltage is 220 V, with standard two pin plugs.
- Language: In the Canary Islands, Spanish is the official language, although in most of hotels, restaurants and stores they will be able to attend to you in english, german or french.
- Local transport: The main public transport are buses (guaguas). With the bus service you would be able to go almost wherever you want; You can check schedules and lines in: www.globalsu.net (inter-urban buses) & www.guaguas.com (urban buses in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Also there is a taxi service.
- Passport & Visa: Being part of them, the Canary Islands are under the same norms and restrictions than Spain and the European Union. Get useful information in your local consulate before travelling.
- Time Zone: The Canary Islands are under WET time zone, that's one hour earlier than in rest of Spain and Central Europe.
- Telephone:You can find phone-boxes on the streets, working with cash or telephone cards (you can buy them at hotels, tobaco stores ...) For international calls 00 prefix, followed by your country code is needed.
- Taxes: The Canary Islands have an special economic regime that makes possible to enjoy low indirect taxes. The IGIC tax is applied, it usually does not surpass 5% of the real product cost, that's why these islands are a wonderful destination to go shopping.
